Ruggiero, Agostino, age 90, of Peabody, passed away on April 16, 2024.
A son of the late Agostino F. Ruggiero and Margherita Grasso Ruggiero, he was born in East Boston on August 30, 1933. Both parents were born in the Benevento Province area of Southern Italy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Deegan Kelly Ruggiero of Peabody, and his children Mary (Mimi) Kelley wife of Joseph, of Peabody, MA, Michael Ruggiero, husband of Darlene, of Easton, PA, Stephen Kelly, husband of Mary, of Salisbury, MA, granddaughter Maeve Kelly of Newburyport, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
Augie was one of six siblings, the late Teresa, Angelo, Anthony, Jimmy and a surviving brother Frank of Winthrop, MA.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Communication Specialist in the Signal Corps. His tour of duty was served in Germany.
Augie was a graduate of Boston English High School and attended Northeastern University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating he worked first at General Electric in the lighting division and then at Phillips Lighting Corp. After working in the corporate world for a period of time he decided he would like to work for himself and started Ruggiero Construction Co., on the North Shore. Eventually he moved the business across the country and opened Ruggiero Construction Co., in Southern California, where he worked for 10 years. This company enjoyed the same success as his first endeavor in Massachusetts.
Augie was a kind and generous friend and family-man. His love and devotion to his loving family was at the forefront of his entire life. A matter of great importance to him was knowing that when a job he was working was finished it was done well. His talent in cooking Italian food was greatly appreciated by family and friends.
Family and friends will honor Augie's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home North Shore Chapel, in Peabody, on Monday, April 22nd from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM before leaving in procession to St. Ann's Church in Peabody for a 11:00 AM funeral mass. Services will conclude with Augie being laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
