Fernando "Fred" S. Machado, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and talented musician, passed away on November 6, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on June 25, 1967, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and his life's journey brought him to the United States in 1980, where he would go on to create a life filled with love, laughter, and music.
Fernando was the cherished son of the late Antonio Correia Machado and Zulmira Santos Silva Machado. He was the loving husband of Mafe (Basan), and together, they shared a deep and enduring love that was an inspiration to all who knew them. He was the proud father of Fernando "Freddy" Machado Jr., Kevin Machado, and Jun Louie Basan, and grandfather of Ethan Machado who were the light of his life.
Fernando's family was of paramount importance to him, and he was the brother of Antonio Silva, Jose Machado, Maria Zulmira Ramos, and Elsa Quadros. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Manuel Machado, Eutimio Machado, and Aciolino Machado. In addition to his immediate family, Fernando is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.
Fernando's life was a testament to the American dream. He immigrated to the United States in 1980, a young man full of ambition and determination. Upon arrival, he began the journey of learning English, a challenge he met with remarkable diligence. He initially worked in a leather factory and as a subcontractor, demonstrating his strong work ethic. In time, he established a successful career as a real estate developer, a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience.
In 2002, Fernando met the love of his life, Mafe, who would become his partner and confidante, sharing in his joys and sorrows, and supporting him throughout his life's adventures. Their love story was a beautiful example of devotion and partnership.
Among Fernando's many talents was his love for music. He was an incredible musician, mastering the keyboard and piano with great skill. His music resonated in the hearts of those who had the privilege of listening, and it was a source of joy and inspiration for all who knew him.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Fernando's life. Visitation will be held on Monday from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 10 Chestnut St., Peabody. Following the visitation, a funeral mass will take place at 11 AM at St. Thomas Church in Peabody. Fernando will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
Fernando "Fred" S. Machado will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and accomplished musician who touched the lives of many with his kindness, talent, and unwavering spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his music and the love he shared with his family will continue to resonate for generations to come.
