Manuel Norberto Silva, 79, of Peabody, passed away Monday evening at the NSMC-Salem Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria Lucinda (Mendonca) Silva.
Manuel was born on April 11, 1943, in Graciosa, Azores, son of the late Joao and Graciumilde (Bettencourt) Silva.
Prior to his retirement, he had worked at Alliance Leather Co. in Peabody. He was a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, the Clube de Luis Camoes, and a faithful and devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. He enjoyed tending to his garden, cooking up a feast for family and friends, but most importantly being surrounded by his loving family. His kind-hearted, generous spirit will by greatly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his loving wife, Maria Lucinda, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Fernando Silva and his wife Brenda of Fremont, NH, Dennis Silva and his wife Bonnie of Derry, NH; his grandchildren, Alyssa Silva, Olivia Silva, Anthony Silva, Mary Silva and William Casey; his brother Rui Bettencourt and his wife Rose of Peabody, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joao Silva, Amaro Silva, and Edilio Silva.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, from 4PM-8PM at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 10 Chestnut St., Peabody. His funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 27, at 9AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem.
