Michael Soper Obituary

Michael F. Soper, 70, of Peabody, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, December 30, 2023 following a yearlong battle with cancer.

He was born April 19, 1953, to Erle and Patience (Flanagan) Soper in Salem, MA, the firstborn of six.

On August 31, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, Kitty (Walsh) and they had 3 children, Holly Weinberg, of Reading, Meghan Bettencourt, of Peabody, and Michael Jr., of Arnold, MD.

Mike was a successful lifelong salesman, first working for Knight Lumber of Beverly followed by Moynihan Lumber selling windows and doors for over 40 years, retiring in 2018. He cherished his days in retirement, rising early to meet friends for coffee, taking his pristine Cadillac for rides, and attending his grandchildren’s many games.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed nothing more than taking in a game and chatting about all sports (except soccer). He also enjoyed being a proud member of both the Hoo-Hoo International Club and Franco-American Club for many years.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kitty, children, Holly and her husband, Dan,  Meghan and her husband, Kevin, and Michael Jr. and his wife, Bridget, grandchildren, Nicholas Soper, Jake and Estelle Weinberg, Mia and Keegan Bettencourt, Macy and Mocha. He is survived by 5 younger siblings, Erle Soper and his wife, Lori, of Salem, Ann Alexion and her husband, George, of Waterboro, Maine, Betty Ryan, and her husband, Michael, of Salem, James Soper and his wife Donna, of Standish, Maine, and William Soper, of Gloucester, brothers-in-law Dennis Ross and Bill Thomas, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
