Paul J Primavera Sr, 84, passed peacefully February 22, 2022 following a brief illness. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on July 28, 1937, Paul attended Quincy High School where he grew to love and excelled in sports, particularly football. Following graduation he entered Boston University, earning a degree in Special Education and Counseling and went on to later attain his Master’s degree as well as Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies.
Passionate about helping those with learning disabilities and physical impairments, Paul created a formal special needs program at a state level within Massachusetts public schools and later becoming the Director of Special Education at Bellingham High School. In that role, he created a work study program for students to combine their academic studies with a vocational trade. After his retirement, the program was housed within the Paul J Primavera Junior Senior High School which was lovingly named after all he accomplished and the many students whose lives he positively affected.
Mr. Primavera was a long time head coach with Bellingham Pop Warner Football Teams and an active member of the Bellingham Lions Club. Within the Lion’s organization he served in a variety of leadership roles and started the annual Lion’s Special Olympics Program in Bellingham. Beyond his involvements, Paul was an active golfer and bowler, avid reader and strong supporter of the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics. He was a proud family man and enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, festive dinners and hours of solitaire with those closest to him.
Through his coaching, teaching and advocacy, Paul was a father to many. His legacy will carry on in the lives he impacted and the programs he pioneered.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Catherine “Kay” Primavera, his children, Robert, Paul (Danielle), and grandchildren, Andrew, Francesca, Caterina, Isabelle and Gemma, and his sister, Jeanne Webb. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Jennie Primavera, as well as his brother Robert “Bobby” Primavera.
Family and friends will honor Paul's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 10 Chestnut Street, Peabody, MA 01960 on Monday, February 28th from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and again on Tuesday morning at 9:30 A.M. before leaving in procession to St. Agnes Parish, 22 Boston Street, Middleton, MA 01949 for a Funeral Mass celebrating Paul's life at 11:00 A.M. Services will conclude with Paul being laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
