Terezinha Bettencourt

  Terezinha Bettencourt, 90, of Peabody, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late João Paulo Bettencourt, who passed away in 1993.

  Terezinha was born on July 8, 1933, in Luz, Graciosa, Azores, daughter of the late Ermelindo and Eugenia (Veiga) Mendonça. She was raised and educated there prior to immigrating to the United States and making Peabody her home in 1972.

  Prior to her retirement, she had worked as an assembler for Alpha Industries. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, both in Peabody. She enjoyed traveling, tending to her garden, loved cooking, but most importantly being surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed by all who loved her.

  She is survived by her loving children, Maria de Jesus Machado and her husband Adroaldo of Peabody, Maria Teresina Bettencourt of Salem, John Bettencourt and his wife Fatima of Gloucester, Maria João Silveira and her husband Manuel of Peabody, Francisco Bettencourt and his wife Paula of Haverhill, Connie Ortins and her husband Joe of Peabody; adored grandmother of Jimmy and Beth Ortins, Jennifer and Alex Bettencourt, Marlene and Matt Harvey, Kimberly and Paul Machado, Marco and Meihui Bettencourt, Zachary Bettencourt, Cassandra and her fiancé Sean Silveira, Christopher Ortins, Taylor Bettencourt, Brandon Bettencourt, Adriana Silveira, Nicholas Ortins; her 6 loving great-grandchildren, Lillyana, Mateus, Vincent, Carolina, Alexander, Isabella; loving Godmother of Joao Lobão, Maria Manuela Veiga, Marisa Mendonça; her siblings, Angelo Mendonça and his wife Emilia of Graciosa, Maria da Conceição Lima and her husband Neogenio of Graciosa and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Maria Filomena Ortins and João Manuel Ortins; her brothers, Ermelindo  and Manuel Mendonça.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18 from 6:30AM – 8:30AM at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 10 Chestnut St. Peabody, followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9AM. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
